Sri Lanka T20 World Cup 2022 Squad, Team, Players List

For the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the cricket governing body of Sri Lanka has built up its lineup with strong players. They have already disclosed the names of the players and every cricketer was chosen based on his current form and performance. Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara have been placed on Sri Lanka’s team for the  ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, however, their availability would rely on their status of fitness prior to the competition.

Sri Lanka will commence their journey in the T20 World Cup 2022 with the match against Namibia on the 16th of October. Ashen Bandara and Praveen Jayawickrama will accompany the team to Australia; Dinesh Chandimal, Binura Fernando, and Nuwanidu Fernando are listed as standbys. The T20 World Cup starts on October 16 and concludes on November 13 at the MCG and Sri Lank would like to repeat the history of the T20 World Cup 2014 where they lifted the title by defeating the Indian team by 6 wickets under the captaincy of Sangakara. Now, Dasun Shanaka will take the responsibility of captain under the guidance of head coach Chris Silverwood. Sri Lankan players are looking in good form currently as they recently defeated Pakistan in the final encounter of the Asia Cup 2022.

The pace attack of the Sri Lanka squad will be handled by Madushanka, Pramod Madushan, and Chamika Karunaratne whereas Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana are an impressive duo in spin bowling attack while Jeffrey Vandersay is a capable backup player. Dhananjaya de Silva has got the capability to bat and bowl which can not be provided by Asalanka and Gunathilaka, he will play a key role in the form of an all-rounder for Sri Lanka. Although Gunathilaka would like to bat in the middle overs instead of opening the game, he is equipped with the ability to be destructive. According to his abilities, Asalanka could not perform well in the Asia Cup and that is why he was not included in the T20 squad of Sri Lanka. De Silva, who had played little for the duration of the competition but shined with both bat and ball, replaced Asalanka.

Sri Lanka’s batting order is looking stable with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis who have secured their places in the top order, middle and lower order will be handled by the potency of Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Chamika Karunaratne.

As officially announced their 15-man lineup for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022, Sri Lanka showed confidence in the set of players that lifted the Asia Cup, with just the additions of fast bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, who was forced to sit out that competition because of fitness issue. So, it would be interesting for the Sri Lankan fans to watch how their favorite team will perform in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
