If you are searching for an exact method to calculate CGPA in VIT, then read the blog.
If you are a Vellore Institute of Technology student, read the blog to know the method to calculate CGPA in detail.
CGPA is a grading system, in which students’ performances are evaluated by taking into account two factors, and they are C or the credit assigned to the individual subjects and GPA or the grade point the students have obtained.
How to Calculate CGPA in VIT in Easy Steps?
The Formula
The formula to calculate CGPA is the total of GPA multiplied by C, divided by the sum of C
that means the sum of (GPA*C)/ sum of C.
The Method in detail
To calculate CGPA, first, you need to know your grade points. For example, suppose you are a student of VIT, and you have opted for four subjects. They may be Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology.
Suppose you have obtained grade A in Physics, Grade B in Chemistry, Grade A in Mathematics, and Grade B in Biology. For example, if grade A stands for score 10, B for 8, you have secured 10-grade points in Physics, 8 in Chemistry, 10 in Mathematics, and 8 in Biology.
Now, you need to consider the credit scores assigned to each of the subjects you have opted for. Suppose the credit score of Physics is 5, 6 for Chemistry, 7 for Mathematics, and 8 for Biology.
First, You need to calculate the sum of all the credit scores assigned to four subjects.
So, the total credit score or C will be (5+6+7+8)=26
Now, to know the GPA of each subject, you have to multiply the grade point that you have scored in each subject with the credit score assigned to the subject. After that, we have to follow the next step.

So, the GPA for each of the subjects will be:
Physics: The grade point you have got is 10, and the credit score assigned to the subject is 5. So, the GPA for Physics will be (10*5)= 50
Chemistry: The grade point you have got is 8, and the credit score assigned to the subject is 6. So, the GPA for Chemistry will be (8*6)=48
Mathematics: The grade point you have got is 10, and the credit score assigned to the subject is 7. So, the GPA for Mathematics will be (10*7)=70
Biology: The grade point you have got is 8, and the credit score assigned to the subject is 8. So, the GPA for Biology will be(8*8)=16
Now, you have to add all the GPAs to calculate the CGPA.
Add the total GPA numbers for all the subjects, and the total will be (50+48+70+16)=184
To calculate the CGPA, you need to divide the total number of GPAs by the total of the credit scores 5 for Physics, 6 for Chemistry, 7 for Mathematics, and 8 for Biology. Thus, the sum will be 26.
So, your CGPA score will be 184/26=7.07.
I am also inserting a table for your easy understanding.
Name of the subjects | Credit assigned to the subjects or C | Grade points obtained by the students | GPA | Total GPA 50+48+70+64 =184 | Total C 5+6+7+8=26 | CGPA total GPA/ total C 184/26 =7.07 |
Physics | 5 | 10 | (10*5)=50 | |||
Chemistry | 6 | 8 | (6*8)=48 | |||
Mathematics | 7 | 10 | (7*10)=70 | |||
Biology | 8 | 8 | (8*8)=64 |
